Pros: I found them to be very stable and comfortable. They are also a few grams lighter than the Metcon4. The lateral support provided by the TPU heel cage, and heel strap as well as the internal cage around the midfoot was excellent. The Zoom Air cushioning felt great without providing too much cushioning like a running shoe would. The Zoom Air unit in the heel was responsive yet sturdy even with heavy squats.
Though looks can be subjective, I feel it’s a good looking shoe. I didn’t say anything about them yet several of my fellow CrossFitters noticed them and remarked that they liked the style.
Cons: While I do feel the Domination TR2 is a very capable training shoe, I wouldn’t call it a true “CrossFit shoe.” This may or may not be of concern but it should be noted that the abrasion resistant mesh upper seems less durable than the Metcon and likely won’t stand up to the abuse from rope climbs. Further, the back of the heel doesn’t slide on the wall very well during HSPU like the Metcons due to the design of the outsole.
Bottom line: The Zoom Domination TR2 makes a nice addition to Nike training’s line up with a reasonably priced shoe capable of almost any workout from HITT to general gym use and coaching. They look and felt great so I’d recommend them for those activities and even CrossFit WODs depending on the workout.
