CrossFit has always embraced our men and women in uniform and they have chosen to honor the Heroes who gave their lives to keep us and our country safe. Because these heroes made the ultimate sacrifice, these workouts will be some of the most intense experiences while testing your mettle and grit.

On August 6, 2011, a tragedy shook the military community and Americans everywhere. On that day, America lost 30 military service members when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was downed in Afghanistan. In honor of their service, the following workout will be performed nationwide annually on August 6, 2011. |

U.S. Army 1st Lt. Daren M. Hidalgo, 24, died on Feb. 20, 2011 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Two weeks prior to his death, he was hit by an earlier improvised explosive device. Despite his injuries, he stayed in the country and on patrols rather than return home. He is survived by his father, Jorge; mother, Andrea; brothers, Miles and Jared; and sister, Carmen. |

At 1:34 p.m., on Nov. 5, 2009, a terrorist named Major Nidal Hasan attacked fellow soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. He killed 12 soldiers and one civilian, and wounded 43 others. U.S. Army Spc. Frederick Greene, 29, of Mountain City, Tennesee, Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19, of West Jordan, Utah, Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Spc. Kham Xiong, 23, of St. Paul, Minnesota, along with 11 of the wounded were active CrossFit athletes in the 20th Engineer Battalion, home to Lumberjack CrossFit. |
