TYR L-2 Lifter Review: Is It Worth the Upgrade from the L-1?
The TYR L-2 Lifter builds on everything that made the L-1 great, but with some key upgrades for even better stability, durability, and grip. You still get that awesome wide toe box that made the L-1 such a fan-favorite and revolutionary design in the weightlifting world but now with a reinforced toe guard, upgraded heel counter, and improved traction. If you're wondering whether it’s worth making the switch, here’s how the L-2 stacks up.
What Stayed the Same
- Wide toe box – Keeps your toes naturally splayed for better balance and control.
- 21mm heel height – Stays the same for a solid squat position.
- Double leather straps – Similar alternating straps, but now with an even more secure midfoot lockdown.
What’s New
- Reinforced toe guard – Protects the front of the shoe from wear and tear caused by repetitive stomping and hard landings during explosive lifts, adding extra durability.
- Upgraded heel counter – Gives even more stability in the heel to keep your foot locked in place.
- Better traction – The new TYRTac™ outsole offers superior grip than the L-1 so your feet stay planted.
Construction
The L-2 is tougher and more supportive than the L-1. The stitched upper and rubber toe guard help the shoe hold up longer by preventing wear and tear from dragging or scraping. The TPU midsole is super dense and won’t compress under heavy weight, keeping your lifts stable and powerful. Plus, the reinforced heel counter locks your foot in place so there’s no unwanted movement. If you liked the L-1, the L-2 takes everything up a notch.
The Best Upgrade
The improved zig-zag-style grip on the TYRTac™ outsole is a game-changer. Whether you're pulling a heavy clean or receiving a snatch overhead, you’ll have great confidence knowing that your feet will stay grounded. Combine that with the added stability features, and the L-2 just feels more secure than the L-1.
Final Thoughts
The TYR L-2 Lifter keeps what worked from the L-1 and makes it even better. With more durability, better grip, and enhanced stability, it’s a solid step up. If you’re serious about lifting and want a shoe that supports your strength, the L-2 is definitely worth it.
