Nike Metcon 7 Training Shoe Review
First Impressions: Love the new look, has that same Metcon 6 feel.
For as much as Nike retooled this shoe (new outsole, new midsole, new upper), it’s incredible how much they feel like their predecessor - and that’s reassuring. The Metcon 6 was great.
Let’s take a closer look at the new features!
Upper: The Metcon 7 has a lighter more breathable mesh that will keep your feet cooler as the workouts heat up your feet. It also has more protection in needed areas, i.e. toe box. The tongue has a cool lace lock where you can pin down the laces so they don’t get in your way.
Midsole: The Metcon 7 no longer has a “drop in midsole”. The midsole is made out of Nike’s proprietary React foam for comfort and responsiveness. But the coolest addition to the midsole is the Heel Stability Plate that transfers force to the perimeter of the shoe giving you more – you guessed it – stability when going heavy.
Outsole: The first thing you’ll notice about this shoe is the outsole wrap on the medial and lateral sides. It’s new, it’s aggressive, and if you do a lot of rope climbs, you'll love it.
Overall: A complete design overhaul can be jarring, but rest assured this is an awesome update to the Metcon lineage you love.
